Vanguard's new 10-bay mobile hospital ward has been installed as a Discharge Lounge

Incredibly spacious, the new ward (W10) is delivered by an HGV, before being expanded, and is open to patients within a few days.

The new, larger ward has been installed, seamlessly joined with one of Vanguard's 8-bay wards, at Peterborough City Hospital.

While incredibly spacious, as this video shows, the new ward (W10) is delivered by HGV, before being expanded, and is open to patients within a few days.

Currently being used by North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust as a Discharge Lounge, the 10-bay ward is ideal for whenever, and wherever in the patient pathway, additional ward space is required.

The short set-up time also makes W10, like Vanguard's other mobile facilities, perfect as alternative, high-quality, clinical capacity while planned or emergency refurbishments are being undertaken.

With the creation of surgical hubs a priority, a ward like W10 can be integrated seamlessly with a theatre and reducing the elective backlog within weeks. Combining W10 with Vanguard's new mobile laminar-flow theatre, T51, with its 49m² operating theatre, creates a fantastic surgical facility.

Each of Vanguard's mobile facilities, which include clinics, CSSDs, diagnostic treatment and/or sterilisation facilities, can be linked to the main hospital building by a purpose built corridor, or integrated with a modular build to combine speed of readiness with design flexibility. Vanguard can also provide clinical staff and medical equipment, ensuring time is not lost while these are sourced.

In its current application, W10, integrated with the 8-bay ward, is performing as a Discharge Lounge that is part of a wider North West Anglia NHS FT redevelopment plan to improve patient experience and to help the trust manage the busy winter months.

“The new facility is larger than the existing discharge lounge and will be a comfortable area that will have both trolley and seating space for patients who are waiting to go home.  Moving patients who are well enough to the discharge lounge frees up beds for our sickest patients and helps us manage the demand on our services across the Trust.”
