Using modern methods of construction (MMC), Vanguard built two operating theatres that have allowed Nuffield Health's Tees Hospital to expand elective capacity, providing excellent facilities for a wider range of vital surgical activities.
Meeting the needs of patients from the local community, including people needing joint replacements, spinal care, prostate, gynaecology, and women’s health services, these facilities include two laminar flow theatres with enhanced scrub areas, two anaesthetic rooms, two recovery rooms, staff welfare areas, spacious corridors, office space and restrooms.

Factory Build
Modular construction enables Vanguard to build around 80% of the facility away from the construction site, at the Vanguard factory in Hull, while the ground works are being completed at the hospital. The time saved by this concurrent working is one of the benefits of MMC. Others include reduced disruption at the hospital, the protection from weather related delays, greater efficiency and better quality control.
Installation

The Newcastle Westgate Cataract Centre has been installed to tackle the significant backlog in patients waiting for routine cataract surgery. Since its installation, the facility has seen the average time spent in the facility decrease from 3-4 hours to between 45 minutes and an hour.
