Central Sterile Services Departments

Our central sterile services department (CSSD) mobile and modular facilities ensure that the vital processes of cleaning, sterilising, and repackaging of surgical instruments can continue uninterrupted during periods of refurbishment, and capacity can be increased during periods of high demand.

The mobile CSSD facilities provide all required cleaning, sterilisation and repackaging services, incorporating a pre-cleaning station with a built-in ultrasonic cleaner, washer disinfectors and steam sterilisers, packing area, independent plant room, electronic datacentre, track and trace system, staff welfare area and HEPA filtered environmental air.

An example of how a mobile CSSD enables a hospital to maintain on-site sterilisation services is provided by Medical Centre Leeuwarden, a 668-bed hospital, serving a community of 250,000, providing surgery including pulmonology, cardiovascular and bariatric.

While groundworks are completed at the hospital site, Vanguard can complete 90% of a modular-build CSSD facility in its factory, in Hull.  Completing more work in the factory means that there is greater control over quality, and much less chance of delays caused by the weather. The duration of the project, the disruption to hospital staff and patients, and lost operational time is reduced because manufacturing of the building coincides with the on-site ground works.

Modules leave the factory with washers, steam sterilisers and hydrogen peroxide low-temperature sterilisers already installed, minimising the time before the facility is operational.
