Vanguard Healthcare Solutions Wins National MMC Award for Royal Glamorgan Hospital “Mini-Hospital” Project

Vanguard delivered an endoscopy complex within six weeks, and a four-theatre surgical suite within ten weeks

Vanguard Healthcare Solutions has won Best Temporary Building Project – Public Sector at the Modern Methods of Construction Awards 2026, recognising the delivery of a pioneering healthcare facility at Royal Glamorgan Hospital in partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Following a critical incident that severely impacted surgical and endoscopy capacity, Vanguard delivered a fully operational “mini-hospital” at exceptional pace. The project included a dual-procedure endoscopy complex installed within six weeks and a four-theatre, two-ward surgical suite delivered within ten weeks, all within a highly constrained live hospital environment.

The judges described the project as “an absolutely brilliant award entry” and praised Vanguard’s ability “to build a mini hospital in just 10 weeks”. They added: “This is a showcase of MMC’s virtues, creating a specialised solution for complex client requirements on a scale, and with a speed, that would not be achievable with traditional construction methods.”

The judging panel also highlighted the overwhelmingly positive feedback from clinicians and patients, noting: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much positive feedback on a single project.”

The facilities have enabled thousands of patients to continue progressing through treatment pathways with minimal disruption, helping restore critical services rapidly while supporting NHS waiting list reduction efforts.

The award reinforces Vanguard’s role as a strategic NHS infrastructure partner, delivering high-quality healthcare environments with speed, flexibility and clinical focus when healthcare systems are under pressure.
