A state-of-the-art endoscopy unit based in the community, to relieve pressure on Swindon’s Great Western Hospital, and to ensure people waiting for important investigations can get the care they need in a more timely manner, and in a setting that is closer to their home or place of work.

So, these community diagnostic developments have been cited within communities so that service users can easily gain access in this new building"

The new facility would have to contribute towards achieving the national objectives of the NHS, meeting the needs of patients, attain the accreditation standards for endoscopy services of the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG), and meet the requirements of the staff who would work within the new centre.
Vanguard, healthcare facility specialists, work with staff from across the trust's departments to ensure the facility meets their needs and the needs of their future patients, providing the optimum place in which to work and in which to be treated.

Planul:
Using modern methods of construction, Vanguard would build a Community Diagnostic Centre with two endoscopy treatment rooms, and six patient pods where patients would be prepared and after treatment, recover. Other rooms include reception and admin team area, waiting area, admission room, two consultation rooms, nurse station, storage areas, utility rooms and scopes stores, and staff welfare rooms and kitchen.
The facility would welcome 6,000 patients over the next twelve months and be designed with a view to easy expansion.
To minimise disruption to the local community, pre-manufactured modules would be delivered to site and installed over two days.
“The Department of Health and Social Care are very keen that whenever capital schemes are being pursued, a modular approach is considered for a range of benefits, typically because it can be done faster. And it's also particularly relevant for this scheme, where you're building something in a working environment where you've got other activities and traffic and pedestrian movement in the area. So if there's a degree of construction activity or manufacturing work that you can conduct away from that site and then bring it in prefabricated, it just means less disruption in the area in which you're placing the building.”
