Avoid capital expenditure and still take care closer to the patient's home
Polyclinics and community clinics with minor surgery facilities are expensive to set up.
Mobiles, however, make it simple and cost-effective to move services such as surgery, podiatry and chemotherapy closer to where the patient lives. They can be used in conjunction with an existing NHS community hospital or on a town centre car park or in a neighbourhood location.
The benefits are:
- The need for capital spending is removed
- The flexibility of mobiles reduces the potential for future capital cost (if the geography of your local care changes, you cannot move a building)
- Can be delivered in existing healthcare sites (community hospitals, GP surgery etc)
- Enables the service to be more flexible and reactive to local needs
