Vanguard challenges EU nations to embrace flexible healthcare
Vanguard Healthcare – the leading UK-based supplier of mobile operating rooms and hospital facilities – has challenged countries across the Continent to embrace a more flexible framework of services within their healthcare systems.
Already described as the ‘national fleet’ of the UK National Health Service, Vanguard is seeking to achieve a similar status across the rest of Europe and instigate a change in the way healthcare is approached – particularly in incorporating the range of innovative, exciting mobile solutions that are available to healthcare providers on the Continent.
Previously only available in the UK, Vanguard are now offering their mobile services – including state-of-the-art operating suites, endoscopy units and day clinics – across the whole of Europe.
Spearheaded by a newly appointed International Business Director, Maurizio Pupi, Vanguard’s international campaign is intended to offer a solution to capacity challenges facing European healthcare providers that can be incorporated into their existing framework of services.
Maurizio Pupi, who joined Vanguard’s executive team in January, said: “In Europe the challenges of the future will only be met successfully if the healthcare industry is built upon a framework of flexibility, and the only way to do so is for healthcare providers to embrace the new ideas and innovations that are on offer.
“Our mobile services allows providers, both private and public, to revolutionise the way that they treat patients,” Dr Pupi continued, “with flexible, state-of-the-art facilities on hand to deploy to any location, regardless of the situation. It is this flexibility that will allow healthcare providers to treat more and more patients without the loss of standards or the need for significant capital expenditure.”
Vanguard’s sales and operations director Mary Smallbone explained: “Now more than ever, European nations are facing stringent budgets and an ageing, healthy population, which could potentially have lasting and significant impacts on the capacity and standards of their healthcare systems – a problem that is felt in the UK also.
“As private healthcare providers and the NHS have done in the UK, providers across Europe can now utilise our mobile services as a means by which to approach capacity challenges and establish a healthcare framework with true flexibility and longevity,” Mary added.
Vanguard’s European focus comes close on the heels of highly successful inaugural trips to Germany’s Medica in November 2009 and Arab Health in Dubai earlier this year, where Vanguard exhibited two of its fully operational, state-of-the-art units to delegates from around the globe.
Until now, Vanguard’s services have been available only within the UK, where Vanguard’s units have been dubbed the ‘national fleets’ due to their extensive deployment by the NHS. The company boasts impressive statistics – since the company was founded in 2000, over 120,000 procedures have been performed on Vanguard’s surgical units.
In January 2004, Vanguard became the first company to supply the NHS with a Mobile Treatment Centre, consisting of two integrated fleets of mobile operating theatres, recovery wards and outpatient facilities as part of the Department of Health\'s national initiative to deliver an additional 40,000 cataract operations across the country.
